Here are a few tips on how to keep cool during a heatwave

It can get really hot in Innsbruck too. Although all the houses at the Kabine are well insulated and every bedroom is equipped with a portable fan, there are a few simple tricks you can use to ensure the apartment stays comfortable. By choosing the right places to visit, you can keep a cool head even during the day.

Tips for your flat at the Kabine

  • Keep the windows and pleated blinds/curtains closed during the day
  • Only air the room out before going to bed
  • Leave your windows slightly ajar overnight. It often doesn’t really cool down until after midnight.
  • Drink plenty of water: fresh, clean, ice-cold spring water comes straight from the tap in your flat.
  • Find a pleasant spot in the shade. Some of our apartments’ balconies face north. The garden at Haus Riedz is also on the north side and offers plenty of natural shade.
  • A cool shower or a refreshing, cold foot bath works wonders.
  • Have a siesta: the sun is at its strongest between 12:00 and 16:00. Try to avoid it as much as possible during this time. Perhaps you could grab a good book and have a bit of a read?

Tips for when you’re out and about

  • Always carry a bottle of water with you, or another non-alcoholic drink of your choice.
  • Don’t forget your hat and sun cream. Apply sun cream regularly with a high protection factor (50+).
  • Always spend the midday hours (between 12:00 and 16:00) in the shade.

Cool places to visit

  • The Sill Gorge in Innsbruck: Take tram line 1 to Bergisel, then enjoy a leisurely walk down to the cool river.
  • Muttereralm water playground: Take the Stubaitalbahn to the Muttereralm valley station, then take the gondola up to the shaded water playground.
  • Tivoli outdoor pool: Bus line J stops practically on the doorstep and takes you straight to the Tivoli outdoor pool – swimming fun for young and old alike.
  • Lanser See: You can also get there on bus route J. Get off at the Igls Romedihof stop and it’s just a 5-minute walk to the lake (gravel path beneath the road).
  • Mühlauer Gorge: take the 501 bus from the Innstraße stop to Mühlau. From there, you can follow our walking route on Komoot. Depending on how energetic you feel, you can linger in the cool gorge or follow the circular walking trail past the Arzler Alm.
  • Baggersee: You can reach Innsbruck’s Baggersee by bike or on bus routes R or F.
